Importance of Regular Breaks and Physical Activities During Online Schooling

Giving learners a break can mentally, physically, and emotionally benefit students. Breaks are important during online learning for many reasons which will be discussed:

    1. Mentally Refreshing: Breaks are ways to enforce mental refreshment. It gives the learner time to breathe and prevent burnout and stress. Students get back to learning with clearer minds.
    2. Improved Learning: Physical activities have been shown to stimulate the brain improve cognitive functions and help with retention qualities. This can help enhance the learning experience 
    3. Social Interaction: Breaks virtually remove the feeling of isolation and give a sense of community during online learning. 
    4. Reduced Strain: Taking breaks off-screen can reduce the strain of long hours on-screen on the eyes.  
    5. Improved Concentration: Taking breaks can help remove fatigue and physical activities improve endorphin levels which in turn improves focus and mood. Engaging in physical activities during breaks enhances concentration and productivity. 
  • Physical Wellness: Online schooling is synonymous with sedentary living. Engaging in physical activities helps eliminate the sedentary nature of learning online. These physical activities help improve general physical wellness. 
  • During online learning, especially live sessions of online learning, breaks help the tutor to catch up with chat comments and questions that might come in during the course of teaching to address and provide answers to when the learners return from breaks.  

 

Although taking mini breaks throughout the learning period may not show obvious significance like a full holiday would, breaks can reduce and prevent stress. Incorporating these outlined methods when it comes to breaks during online schooling is essential because it helps in a more balanced learning experience and benefits mental and physical well-being.
